All month long in October, we will post reviews of books with spooky themes, whether outright horror or just uncanny.
Carroll’s anthology of horror comics is hauntingly beautiful and genuinely creepy. She tells stories of loss and mystery and ghosts and death that leave the reader wanting more, yet also feeling wary of whatever could possibly come next. Sometimes she employs twist endings, but often the creepiness is present from the very first panel and only increases as the story goes on. If you are a fan of Junji Ito’s horror manga, you will love Emily Carroll’s work.
