I have long been a fan of the Arthurian legend, and any retelling of the story is always a pleasure. Most stories focus on Arthur, Gwynevere, Morgan, Lancelot or any of the royal character, nut this series looks at Merlin from his time as a child throughout his life. This first book deals with his early years, from a child of five until the conception of Arthur, which is a bit odd for a story about Arthur’s life time. I found the story very interesting how it can tell the story of a magician without him performing magic. In this telling he has visions and is a man of science, engineering, and math. A far cry from the Hollywood portrayal we have observed. Definitely a good read.
