The Bourbon Kings is a new series for J. R. Ward, which is set in the old south, kind of like Downton Abbey in the USA. The great family is the Baldwin family owners of the Bradford Bourbon Company, a family owned empire since the 1770’s when the family emigrated from Pennsylvania. And as in all great households that follow the caste system, any time one of the elite dailies with the hired help problems arise. The family is dysfunctional, distasteful and unpleasant. The hired help is charming and completely devoted to the family. I found the black and white nature of the characters to not be to my liking, and the unlikeable character to be uninteresting. But, maybe I was comparing the book to J.R. Ward’s other series that I adore. Read this book and tell me what you think.
